Kedarkantha: The Ultimate Winter Summit

Kedarkantha (3,810m) is a classic winter trek located within the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in Uttarakhand. Known for its stunning 360-degree views of the Garhwal Himalayas, the trek takes you through ancient pine forests and vast snow-covered meadows. Starting from Chandigarh, this 5-day journey is famous for its “summit push”—a rewarding climb to a peak marked by a small shrine of Lord Shiva that offers a bird’s-eye view of peaks like Swargarohini and Black Peak.

Day 01 :

Day 1: Chandigarh to Sankri (1,950m)

The Journey: A long but scenic 10-12 hour drive from Chandigarh via Dehradun and the banks of the Tons River.

Arrival: Reach Sankri by late evening; check into a traditional wooden homestay and prepare your gear for the snow.

Day 02 :

Day 2: Sankri to Juda Ka Talab (2,773m)

The Trail: A steady 4km climb through dense pine forests and over small wooden bridges.

The Camp: Reach the legendary frozen lake, Juda Ka Talab, where you will set up your first high-altitude camp.

Day 03 :

Day 3: Juda Ka Talab to Kedarkantha Base (3,430m)

The Ascent: A shorter but steeper 4km trek as the forest thins out to reveal the towering peak of Kedarkantha.

Preparation: Settle into the base camp; enjoy a warm meal and attend the briefing for the early morning summit push.

Day 04 :

Day 4: Summit Push (3,810m) & Descent to Sankri

The Summit: A pre-dawn start to reach the peak by sunrise. Witness a 360-degree panorama of the Garhwal peaks.

The Descent: After celebrating at the top, descend through the snow to the base camp and continue all the way back to the comfort of Sankri.

Day 05 :

Day 5: Sankri to Chandigarh Return

The Final Leg: Board your private vehicle for the return journey, arriving back in Chandigarh by late evening with your summit certificate and memories.
