Kedarkantha: The Ultimate Winter Summit
Kedarkantha (3,810m) is a classic winter trek located within the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park in Uttarakhand. Known for its stunning 360-degree views of the Garhwal Himalayas, the trek takes you through ancient pine forests and vast snow-covered meadows. Starting from Chandigarh, this 5-day journey is famous for its “summit push”—a rewarding climb to a peak marked by a small shrine of Lord Shiva that offers a bird’s-eye view of peaks like Swargarohini and Black Peak.
Trip Highlights
- Iconic Winter Summit: Stand at 3,810m on a snow-capped peak for unmatched views of the Har Ki Dun valley.
- Juda Ka Talab: Camp beside a high-altitude lake that remains completely frozen during the winter months, surrounded by dense forests.
- The "Summit Push": Experience the thrill of a pre-dawn climb to witness the sun rising over the snow-clad Himalayan ranges.
- Pine Forest Immersion: Trek through some of the most beautiful pine and oak forests in India, which turn into a winter wonderland from December to March.
- Local Culture: Experience the warm hospitality of the remote mountain village of Sankri, the base camp for this expedition.
