Moon Peak: The Dhauladhar Summit Quest

Moon Peak (4,650m) is a prominent summit located in the Dhauladhar range, standing tall behind the famous Triund hill. Unlike regular treks, this is a “semi-technical” summit quest that takes you across the Indrahar Pass and onto a rocky ridge leading to the peak. Starting from Chandigarh, this 5-day journey offers a true mountaineering experience, featuring steep snow slopes, boulder fields, and a dramatic summit that feels like standing on the edge of the world.

This 5-day expedition transitions from the plains of Chandigarh to the jagged granite crests of the Dhauladhars. The trek is challenging and physically demanding, designed for those who have prior trekking experience and are looking to push their limits. The journey is a masterclass in mountain navigation, ending with a triumphant stand atop one of the most iconic peaks in the Kangra valley.

Day 01 :

Chandigarh to McLeod Ganj / Dharamkot (2,100m)

The Journey: A 5-6 hour drive from Chandigarh to the vibrant hill station of McLeod Ganj.

Experience: Spend the evening exploring the local Tibetan culture and preparing for the early morning start.

Day 02 :

Dharamkot to Triund & Laka Got (3,300m)

The Trail: A steady climb through rhododendron forests to the Triund ridge.

The Camp: Continue past Triund to reach the snowline at Laka Got, where you will set up camp at the base of the massive rocky wall.

Day 03 :

Laka Got to Lahesh Cave & Base Camp (3,500m)

The Ascent: A shorter but steep trek to the natural rock shelter of Lahesh Cave.

Preparation: Settle into the base camp, practice basic snow-craft if needed, and prepare for the midnight summit push.

Day 04 :

Summit Push (4,650m) & Descent to Triund

The Summit: A pre-dawn start to cross the Indrahar Pass and navigate the ridge to Moon Peak. Stand at the summit to witness the first rays of sun hitting the Mani Mahesh Kailash.

The Descent: Carefully retrace your steps back across the pass and descend to the Triund meadows for your final mountain camp.

Day 05 :

Triund to Dharamkot & Return to Chandigarh

The Final Leg: A quick 3-hour descent to the base and board your private vehicle for the return journey, arriving in Chandigarh by late evening.
